If i buy a book of shadows, will something bad happen to me?

I am a Christian girl, and I want to write a manga(graphic novel) about a girl who has her own book of shadows, and she begins to use its powers to corrupt everything around her(I won't go into detail, for fear of someone stealing from me.) I wanted to do some research on magic(I'm buying the book as a resource. I have no desire to use witchcraft, and if I did it would be for good purposes only, ) anyway, I'm just worried that if I get a book of shadows, that something bad will happen, like I will be possessed, my family will be hurt or I'll become a devil-worshipper, or something! I want to get this book to learn about magic so I can write my book, but I don't want something bad to happen.
