What do i need to upgrade in my laptop to get pro tools se problems fixed?

i have a gateway with windows 7, 4 gb memory, and 500 gb hard drive. i know the processor speed is good. i have 2 problems with pro tools se. i can't record long at all, and alot of time i have a static sound. do i need to upgrade a driver? i want to be able to record a long song if i wanted, and never worry about the static sound. i know my laptop wasnt mae for recording purposes so i would like to know what in it do i need to replace so it can handle recording.
