Why does my StarCraft: Brood War keep freeezing up?

everytime i go to my battlenet it freezes up. it will stop at connecting to fastest server. i cant even click the cancel button. ive tried letting it sit for 30 minutes and it was still there so i have to turn off my computer manually then back on. please help me fix this problem!
